Kingmaker - It's the most common weapon for a guardian. We assume that if you need a tanky AG you yourself have to be somewhat tough as well. It grants you and your other Minions Culling Strike, +50% Critical Strike Multiplier, and 10 Fortification which elevates your build in terms of damage and survivability.
If your Guardian dies, all gear is lost, as per design. If you die nothing happens to the Guardian, he stays and fights until you resurrect, so you better resurrect quickly to pull him from danger. If you relog he can be resummoned with current gear since he didn't die.
The Animate Guardian is more than a collection of your unwanted Armour and Weapons. It's a steady companion which provides buffs, debuffs and even damage. An Animate Guardian of Smiting looks to be specialized for damage. Smite calls down Lightning from above, dealing damage to enemies caught in the area of effect.
If you unequip the skill gem, the Guardian disappears until you equip the gem again, at which point the same Guardian (retaining all its equipment) reappears after casting the spell again. This also holds true when swapping a different AG gem in.
Items can be of any rarity, but must be identified and on the ground to be used. Animated items are consumed by the spell and cannot be recovered. Items containing skill gems cannot be animated, so the Guardian cannot use trigger gems.
Guardian's main power-damage weapons will be Sword, Focus, and Greatsword, and the only true condition damage weapon Core Guardian has to offer is Torch. Your defensive/healer weapons are Shield, Mace, and Staff.
Animate Armour is a level 4 Earth/Summonings spell which brings forth your armour's spirit into battle as an animated armour. The heavier your armour, the stronger it will be.
As a Guardian, you're automatically relegated to tank duties I'm afraid. This means that you're going to have to focus on maximizing your Health and Protections at the cost of your damage output. Along with that, you also going to have to focus on disrupting the enemy more than doing any significant damage to them.
The additional curse capability of the Animate Guardian heavily relies on the use of gloves corrupted with curse on hit, as well as the Guardian having the ability to apply more than one curse.
Go to the Calc tab, select the Animate guardian Active Skill at the top, and make sure "Show Minion Stats" is checked. You will have to select their gear set too, even if you specified it under skills. You can then see your AG resistances, which also include any minion resistances on your tree or items.
Guardian's Blessing Support is a support gem that makes an aura skill lose its reservation and become a Blessing Skill. You will only be able to benefit from one Blessing at a time. The aura can only be used while you have a supported minion, which takes a percentage of their maximum life as physical damage over time.
The Dungeon Guardian is statistically the strongest enemy in Terraria (if not counting invincible enemies), and only spawns when you move below -3 (underground) depth in the Dungeon before defeating Skeletron. Once Skeletron is defeated, Dungeon Guardians will no longer spawn.
