Dennis Edward Tyrrell of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, passed away on July 17, 2024. Dennis was born on December 1, 1943, in Mankato, Minnesota, to Edward Luke Tyrrell and Ella Irene (Tolzmann) Tyrrell.He grew up in Wells, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school and played the saxophone. He received a bachelor's degree from Mankato State University. Dennis became licensed in securities and insurance. He worked as a financial planner for many years. Dennis had a love of classic cars. He frequently drove his 1968 Pontiac Bonneville convertible in local parades. Dennis is survived by his four children: Judge Natalie Tyrrell, Denise DeKoter, Daniel Tyrrell, and Amber Tyrrell, and his five grandchildren: Nathan Loyd, Peyton Tyrrell, Isabella Tyrrell, Chase DeKoter, and Ryan DeKoter.

Marlene Clare Lind, age 79, of St. Peter died Wednesday, July 17, 2024.Funeral Service 12 noon, Monday, July 22, 2024, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Peter. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., Monday at the church. Interment will be in Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. St. Peter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Marlene was born April 6, 1945, to Albert and Esther (Albright) Schultz. She graduated from St. Peter High School in 1963 and Mankato State College in 1967 with a degree in elementary education. Marlene was united in marriage to David C. Lind on July 20, 1968 at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church, St. Peter. Marlene worked as an educator for both St. Peter Public School District as well as Jack and Jill Nursery School, retiring in 2006. She was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she volunteered weekly at the school and served on numerous committees. She enjoyed playing bridge and many social activities with her friends. Marlene's smile could light up a room and her laugh was contagious.Marlene is survived by three children, Mark Lind of Cottage Grove, MN, Karla (Tim) Samuelson of St. Peter, and Kari (John) Lind-Tufte of Ft. Collins, CO; four grandchildren, Brianna and Dylan Samuelson, Olivia and Leif Tufte; brother, Duane Schultz of St. Peter; sister, Betsy Awni of Libertyville, IL; in-laws, Margaret (Tom) Blackburn of Otsego, Marian Nygard of St. Peter, and Carol Lind of North Mankato; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David in 2011; sister, Lorna Quiram.

Maurice Allen Walker (Maury) went to be with the Lord July 12, 2024 at Birchwood Cottages, North Mankato. Maurice was born June 4, 1937 to Harold and Stella (Marie) Walker. He married Sharon Claude September 26, 1959; they had four children. First, he lived on the family farm, then moved to Delavan, MN. He graduated from Delavan High School. He enjoyed his dog Benji and cat Sable. He was a talented musician; he performed with two gospel quartets: "The Spokesmen" and "The Brothers." He served in the military and was honorably discharged from McGregor Range Fort Bliss. He worked for MNDOT until his retirement. He raised his family in Wells, MN and later resided in Blue Earth, MN. He is survived by his wife Sharon, children Jeffrey (Donna), Jolene (Fred), Janelle (Eric), and Joshua (Shari), sixteen Grandchildren, twelve Great Grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law Frank Claude (Kathy), sister and brother-in-law Candice Kleinbeck (Jeff). He was proceeded in death by his parents Harold and Marie, siblings Eugene, Eldon, Joanne, Shirley, Barbara and Marylou, his father and mother-in-law Frank and Nola, infant son James Scott (Jamie), sister-in-law Shannon, niece Kimberly, nephew R.J. and three unborn Grandchildren.

Her family moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan when she was about 10 years old. Lillian was the second youngest of ten siblings. Lillian graduated from St. John's High School, Benton Harbor, Michigan, May 28, 1948 and attended Junior College of Benton Harbor. Lillian worked as an assistant to the Treasurer of Barrien County, Michigan. Lillian met Charles Sehe when he came with a fellow veteran and classmate from the University of Iowa to work during the summer on the Lysaght farm. After meeting the approval of her parents, Lillian married Charles T. Sehe on June 20, 1953, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Lillian and Charles moved to Iowa City while Charles completed his degree and research at the University of Iowa. After several moves, they made their home and raised their family in Mankato. Lillian was devoted to her family and her faith. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. Lillian enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and when time permitted playing Bridge.Lillian is survived by her husband of 71 years, Charles Sehe; children Isabel Sehe, Mary (Clarence) Ites, Kieran (Frank Vito) Loparco, Elizabeth Sehe, and James Sehe; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great- grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and their families.Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Charles Marshall, James Richard, William Anthony, Marie (Lysaght) Calvert, Sr. Mary Blanche Lysaght RSM (Jeanne Isabelle), John Frances, James Henry, Col. Jeffrey Matthew Leiferman, aged 69, of Thornton, CO, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 7, 1955 in Wells, MN. Jeff was the beloved son of Aloysius and Dorothy Leiferman.Jeff worked as an accountant and retired from Land O Lakes after nearly 40 years of service. He dedicated his life to his family and was known for his love of Minnesota and Colorado sports teams. His humor and charm touched the lives of many.He is survived by his children Matt, Anna (Dane Mariotti), Josh, and Natalie (Arslan Khan), grandchildren Eli & Emery (Mariotti) and sisters Nancy (Mike) and Lori (David) and countless friends who became family.Jeff enjoyed spending time with his family and could be found on the sidelines of every gymnastics meet, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball and rugby practice, game or event of his children and grandchildren. Jeff was a quiet man with a beguiling smile who was known to get a bit rowdy after a few drinks. Due to family being spread apart in Colorado and Minnesota there will not be a memorial service. Instead, his children will spread his ashes at his favorite hiking trail in Boulder, CO. If you wish to send Jeff off please say a prayer that the Vikings will actually have a winning season this year. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the memories we hold near. He will be dearly missed but will forever remain in our hearts.

John Ramy, 89, died Wednesday July 3, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems Hospital in Mankato with family by his side. John was born June 1, 1935 in Mankato, MN to Tom and Adele Ramy. John loved to tell stories about growing up in the family-owned grocery store in lower North Mankato. John worked at Continental Can in Mankato as a machine operator for 40 years before retiring in 1995. John married Doris Baier on April 30, 1971 in Mankato. The couple enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, gardening, cooking and occasionally visiting area casinos together.John loved to prepare and share Lebanese food. John was a witty storyteller and loved a good joke.John is survived by his stepchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins.John was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Ramy; parents, Tom and Adele Ramy; sister, Rosalene Ramy; brother, Charles Ramy; and his infant nephew.

Samuel "Sam" Paul Menne, 21, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away July 13th in a motorcycle accident when a car unexpectedly pulled in front of him. Sam was born on May 10, 2003 in Mankato, Minnesota to Paul and Mary Menne. He was the oldest of 10, a natural leader and was always helping others. When God called his family to Colorado, his sister was born. He became a big brother for the first time and immediately embraced the role. He also put on his first pair of hockey skates in the mountains near Pike's Peak, beginning his love of hockey which would continue through high school. Upon returning to Minnesota, he was blessed with his first little brother and he started hockey in full force. He eventually transitioned to goalie which suited his personality of being a rock solid protector for his family, friends and country. He was so excited to start school, meet friends and be independent. Sam loved his family, but friends were also very important to him. He was a people pleaser and loved to make people smile. He had such an inquisitive mind taking things apart and figuring out how they worked. His first science fair project was an electric generator, which would also become a meaningful part of his life in Sioux Falls. Sam genuinely enjoyed school and loved helping out. In his younger years he was a school patrol, enjoyed being a buddy reader and was a great big brother helping with his younger siblings at school. As he got older he volunteered to serve breakfast at school and joined Henderson's Sauerkraut Krew. He was also known to be found cleaning up the local parks, shoveling neighbors' driveways or walking with his siblings around town. He loved to be outside and was thrilled to attend a school trip to the Minnesota Boundary Waters. The love of the outdoors and fishing never left him. He was an active athlete competing in high school hockey, track, and cross country. There wasn't a board he couldn't ride; wakeboard, snowboard, longboard, surfboard, skimboard, and kneeboard. Although he broke a few bones he was a natural at learning new tricks. Fearlessly he attempted jumps, road waves and recorded many hours on his go-pro. Sam enjoyed working with his hands. He loved shop class, especially welding and wood working. He would later put those skills to use during his deployment. He was always working on his trucks. He was a hard worker whether it was milking cows on a dairy farm, in restaurants at Dairy Queen or Chick-fil-A, automotive work at TMS Automotive and Manlys, or as a field supervisor for installing fiber lines. His two favorite jobs were the US Army and Harvard Integrations in Sioux Falls. When Sam wasn't working he enjoyed time on the water both in his grandpa's fishing boat and on his family's boat enjoying water sports. He taught his siblings to water ski, wakeboard and kneeboard. He was the crazy kid you'd see slalom skiing with an American flag in hand. He also enjoyed gaming with family and friends. He was a very passionate person and could be heard at any hour talking loudly with his gaming crew. He also loved playing Minecraft with his siblings and loved teaching his youngest sisters how to game. Sam joined the US Army Reserves during his junior year and arrived at Fort Jackson, SC for basic training just 27 days removed from turning 17, making him one of the youngest Americans to complete basic training in modern times. After graduating basic training he returned home for his senior year and graduated from Le Sueur-Henderson High School. Following that he went to his specialized Army schooling to be a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic at the US Army Ordnance Corps & School at Fort Gregg-Adams in Virginia. After that, he joined his friends in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and attended Southeast Technical College to earn an AAS in Diesel Technology. Before completing his degree, the Nation called upon Sam and his Army Reserve unit, the 323 Chemical Company to deploy to Kuwait for a year in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (Spartan Shield). He returned home safely this spring. His military awards include the Army Accommodation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Armed Forces Medal with M Device.Following his deployment and before classes were to resume this fall, Sam was working at Harvard Integration, helping assemble giant diesel generators for some of the world's largest companies.Waiting in Heaven for Sam was his Uncle Nate and many other loved ones. Sam is now lovingly waiting in Heaven for his Mom, Dad, Lauren, Matthew, William, Elijah, Peter, Isaac, Josephine, Hazel, Charlotte, his dog Teddy, and many of his family and friends. Sam was never one for flowers and was always helping people. Margaret Elizabeth Shoemaker, 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Mankato, MN after a steadfast battle with cancer. Margie was born on March 12, 1958 to Richard and Elizabeth Boyer in Johnstown, PA. She grew up in Clinton, MD with her parents, sister Debbie, brother Ryan, and their tightly knit family of the best cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. There was never a shortage of road-trips, family parties, laughter, or memories. Before graduating from Surrattsville High School in 1976, Margie met her future husband while he was stationed in Washington D.C. as part of the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Margie and Brian Shoemaker were married on April 11, 1981 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Suitland, MD. Their married years were spent in different states across the country and overseas while raising their three children, Brandie, Stacy, and Troy. Margie loved her family and friends immensely. She enjoyed watching the Twins play baseball, taking care of her dachshunds, decorating, baking her famous strawberry rhubarb coffee cake, and vacationing in Ocean City, MD. Margie touched the lives of many and will be sincerely missed by all who had the honor of knowing her. She is survived by her loving husband, Brian; children, Brandie Shoemaker of Alexandria, VA, Stacy (Luke) Erickson of Waseca, MN, and Troy Shoemaker of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren; Kurt, Natalie and Ivan Erickson; siblings, Deborah Travis and Ryan (Janet) Boyer; in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other extended family members.She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Elizabeth Boyer, and her father- and mother-in-law, Guy and Hilda Shoemaker. Roger "Jolly" Wilking, died Thursday July 11, 2024 at Pathstone in Mankato. Memorial services will be held at 11am Saturday, July 20, 2024 at St. Paul's Evangelical Church in North Mankato. Visitation will be held Friday July 19th from 4-6pm at Woodland Hills Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Private Interment will be held at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.Jolly was born on August 27, 1940 to Edward and Edna (Dallmann) Wilking in New Ulm. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1958. Jolly was united in marriage to Judy Ehmke on June 9, 2000. He started his career at Kato Engineering in High School before moving on to Northern Ordinance and then finished his career at Kato Engineering as a tool and die maker. In his free time Jolly loved to create things and was always thinking. He also loved snowmobiling, bowling, softball, fishing, hunting, golfing and his friend Jack Daniels. Jolly was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of the WELS Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Judy Ehnke of Mankato; sons, Rick Wilking of St. Peter, Steve Wilking of North Mankato, and Scott (Alicia) Wilking of Sartell; grandchildren, Elijah, June and Bowie.Jolly is preceded in death by his parents; great hunting dog, Gus; and not so great hunting dog, Cody. On July 26, 1952, Allan was united in marriage to Virginia (Ginny) Chamberlain. They lived in Mankato until June 1974, when they moved to their home on Lake Ballantyne. Allan worked at ADM and then Hubbard Milling Company for 42 years.Allan is survived by his children, David Asleson, Judy Anderson, Steven (Patty) Asleson, Gail (Bill) Vagts, Barbara (David) Conrad, and Jane (Rich) Resutek; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Kutches; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ginny Asleson; daughter, Cheryl Haefner; father, Arnold Asleson; mother, Selma Thorstad; brothers and sisters-in-law, Arden and Dorothy Asleson and David and Thelma Asleson; brother-in-law, Lowell Kutches; daughter-in-law, Donna Asleson; and son-in-law, Brian Anderson.

JON ALFRED TRAHMS, age 80, of Janesville passed away Sunday morning, July 14, 2024 at Bridgewater in Janesville.Born on January 4, 1944 in Waseca, Jon was the eldest son of Alfred and Dorothy (Storjohann) Trahms. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Janesville High School with the class of 1961. He attended the University of Minnesota until he enlisted in the Army Reserve. He spent basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri and served until his honorable discharge. He returned to the University of Minnesota then returned home to farm with his dad and eventually his brothers, R. David and Tom. Jon was an active member in his community. He was a member of the Jaycees and served as both regional and district director and was elected to the MN JCI Senate. He served on the board of directors of Waseca-Janesville Ag. Co-op as well as its successor Southern Valley Co-op. He was on the Waseca County Soil and Water Conservation Board and was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving as a Trustee. He was also a member of the Janesville American Legion Post 281. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was strongly committed to his family, especially his nieces and nephews, as well as his lifelong friends. He was a funny, hardworking, loyal, and kind man who will be dearly missed. A special thank you to Bridgewater and St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion. Diana Burns, age 82, of North Mankato, formerly of Wells, MN, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Vista Prairie at North Pointe in North Mankato, MN. She embroidered towels and pillow cases and gave them to her family and friends. She traveled to Florida and Las Vegas often to visit her siblings. She liked to go to Diamond Joe's Casino and gamble the nickel slot machines. After she moved to No. Mankato, she always requested Bean or Beef Burritos from Taco John's whenever a person visited. Bonita Lorene (Craker) Bequette age 91 died July 12, 2024. Bonita was born May 10, 1933 to Nando and Olga (Krueger) Craker in Fall Creek, WI. She was raised in Fairchild, WI., where she was baptized, confirmed, met her future husband (Don) and later married there. She graduated high school, and continued studies in business machines and office procedures and ended up working at Lutheran Brotherhood. Don was drafted into the Army and they lived the Army life for 2 years.They started their family in 1954 with a son Ronald and then Bryon in 1958. Green Bay was their home while Don worked for North Central Airlines. With a promotion, they moved to Upper Michigan for a short stint and then moved to Mankato in 1958. They began a business for travel services entitled All Seasons Tour and Travel located in the Madison East Mall. After her sons were both in school, she worked at various part time jobs, the latest was at Carlson Craft for 30 years. She enjoyed the fellowship of co-workers and many friends in the various departments. Ron and Bryon gave her seven grandsons: Mike (Joanna), Joe (Margaret), Tom (Kristy), David, Stephen, John, and Daniel. Years later along came six great-grandchildren: Isabel, Bales, Jaci, Raider, Felicity and Nova. She had great joy with each of them. Bonnie was a permanent and loyal fan of all their sports and activities. One of her hobbies was genealogy after her father told his children that Charles Dickens was an ancestor on his father's side. She is survived by Ronald (Becky) of St. Clair and Bryon (Debbie) of Excelsior and their families. Many other close dear relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 69 years, Don, four sisters, one brother, one grandson, and one great-grandchild. When he wasn't working on the farm, Lynn enjoyed listening to old tyme music and polka dancing at area festivals and ballrooms. He also enjoyed attending area county fairs to visit with other local farm families. Lynn enjoyed the friendships made and the laugh shared while bowling over the years. To relax, Lynn always enjoyed going for a nice Sunday drive to check the area crops, spending time working in his garden, and going out to dinners. Lynn was a lifetime member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland. Although his passing was sudden and unexpected to most, his memory will forever live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him best. Marianne (Stoffels) Funk, resident of The Pillars of Mankato since November 2023, died there peacefully June 23, 2024, her generous heart and active mind and spirit stilled at 97 years.Born in St. Paul August 29, 1926. Humboldt High School graduate, 1944; World War II secretarial service, U.S. Treasury Department, Washington, DC. Back in St. Paul, met WWII veteran Tom Funk at a local dance. Married in 1948, their Catholic faith, outdoor and athletic interests, and close ties to their large extended families anchored them for 60 years of marriage, while raising two daughters and caring for their elderly parents. Tom, a St. Paul police officer 34 years, died in 2009.Marianne was a caring neighbor, faithful and supportive spouse, attentive and loving mother and stellar grandmother, known for her beaming smile, positive encouragement, wisdom and wit. A dedicated homemaker and hostess, she was always conscious of good nutrition; logging countless miles, she was an active walker since youth till two days before her death.As her breaths shortened and her heart slowed, she did what she had done across her lifetime - asked Jesus and Mother Mary for help. As always, her prayer life sustained her and her faith principles guided her words and actions. Philip J. Murphy (Phil) of Madelia, MN passed away at the age of 84 on July 6, 2024, due to complications from treatment for lymphoma. Philip was born on January 12, 1940, to Roy and Bernadine Murphy. The oldest of six children, he grew up on the family farm outside of Madelia in Ceresco Township. There he learned the value of hard work, being frugal, and the art of shooting baskets with a corncob into the basketball rim his father had attached to the barn. Most importantly, his parents taught him the value of getting an education, a lesson which he later passed along to his own children. He attended Madelia High School where he participated in football, baseball, and his favorite sport of basketball. While he was not a star player on the team, he did make a half-court shot to win one game, and often bragged about fouling out in less than a quarter in another game, which he thought had to qualify as some sort of record. He graduated in 1958 from Madelia and then attended St. John's University. There he was humorously accused of "flaunting his B average" to his fellow classmates, many of whom carried much better GPAs. He also was elected president of the "Stein Club" at the LaPlayette Bar in St. Joseph's, which entitled him to unlimited 5 cent beer refills. Late in his senior year, through mutual friends, he met the love of his life, Rosemary (Gage) Murphy, who was then a student at St. Catherine's University. He graduated from St. John's in 1962 and attended law school at the University of Minnesota. He and Rosemary were married on December 28, 1963, in Mount Prospect, IL.After graduating from law school in 1965, he passed the MN bar exam and was sworn in as a lawyer on the same day the MN Twins played and won Game 6 of the World Series against the LA Dodgers, a game which he also attended. It is a tossup which event he enjoyed more. He and Rosemary settled in Madelia, where he joined Cecil J. Manahan's law office. He was a "small town" lawyer for the next 50+ years. He served as City Attorney for many of those years, served as District President of the MN State Bar Association, mentored numerous young attorneys, and provided legal services to countless clients with dedication, integrity, and compassion. Phil loved his lifelong hometown of Madelia, MN and there he and Rosemary raised their six children. He was an active member of the community and, in particular, of the St. Mary's parish, where he helped start the Parish Endowment Fund and was still actively serving on the Calvary Cemetery Board. Phil was a pillar of the community and never stopped donating his time to any cause that made the town stronger, including the Lions Club, Watonwan County Historical Society, Farmers State Bank Board, Madelia Strong, countless school and community fundraisers, and volunteering as a Senior Driver for those in need. He deeply loved any type of reunion, and particularly enjoyed Madelia's All School Reunions when he would get a chance to catch up with many Madelia High School alumni. He also loved keeping in touch with his many St. John 's friends and classmates. If there was any chance to connect with people, Phil was there. A passionate sports fan, Phil marked time by major sporting events and was a dedicated follower of all professional Minnesota sports teams, the St John's Johnnies, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and any small-town Minnesota team who made it to the State High School Basketball Tournament. Phil also loved to keep up on current events and read several newspapers every day.Phil's greatest joy was his family. He loved being involved in the lives of his six children, attending all of their various high school sporting and band events (including away games). He was proud of putting all six children through college, and enjoyed visiting them on campus. He also adored his seven grandchildren, with whom he loved spending time playing card games, taking walks around Lake Harriet, and of course attending their basketball games and swimming meets.Philip and Rosemary enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Europe and Latin America, including to Chile, where they were able to visit Jalil Said, the foreign exchange student they had hosted in 1991. Philip is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bernadine Murphy, and his sister Kathleen. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosemary, and their six children and spouses: Christopher, Margaret (Steve Olin), Matthew (Liz Meiley), Gregory (David Engen), Joseph (Carolyn), and Thomas (Becky), and grandchildren Juliet, Connor, Liam, Teddy, Charlie, Madeline, and Anna. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses: Capt. Rosemary Murphy, Suzie (Leon) Corressell, Sheila Murphy, and John (Alece) Murphy, as well as his nieces and nephews, and many dear friends from every chapter of his life.Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17th from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in Madelia, and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning. Most recently, he enjoyed returning to serving local customers and contractors in the Madelia area. Jeff gave his time and talents to others, expecting nothing in return. He was quick to action when there was a call for help. He had the best advice for his family and gave life lessons whether we needed them or not. He took time out of his busy schedule to instill Boy Scout values with his sons, later acting in both assistant scoutmaster and scoutmaster roles for the Madelia troop. Jeff was known for telling "dad" jokes, making people laugh and his unwavering love of anything John Deere. He was an all around great person - an admirable family man, a giving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and community member. He was certainly not finished giving to those he loved and cared for and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He graduated from Mankato West High School in 1971. On May 23, 1980, Gary was united in marriage to Deborah Harris at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato. Gary was a lifelong resident of Belgrade Township where he farmed on the family farm that was homesteaded by his ancestors in the 1800's. He was a soybean, corn, and hog farmer. Gary was a vegetable gardener and shared everything he grew with others. Gary and his daughter, Andrea owned and operated Granary Designs since 2017. They made signs, trays, clocks, boxes, flags and sold them at craft shows. He was preceded in death by his son, Aaron and his parents.

John passed away peacefully on the morning of May 25, 2024. John was born in Mankato to Florence and Allen Kawell. He lived there until moving with his family to Burnsville in 1965. In 1981 he returned to Mankato and lived in Eagle Lake at the Harry Meyering Center Home. He worked for over 30 years at MRCI in Mankato. He celebrated his 69th birthday with his family in April.John was provided with gentle care and support by the staff of the Harry Meyering Center, MRCI and Blue Earth County along with many healthcare professionals all of whom knew John for many years.John had an infectious laugh. He loved watching and attending Twins and Vikings games.He visited his sisters in North Carolina and Wisconsin and his brother in Ely. He also cruised through the Caribbean and traveled by train to Seattle.John is survived by his brother Mark Kawell (partner Barb Levie); sisters Ann Luke (Allan) Laurie Gilbertson (Larry) and Karen Cole (Scott) along with many nieces and nephews.A memorial gathering to honor John's life will be held from 3-5 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Mankato. Pam Foster, age 75, passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2024, in Mapleton, Minnesota. Born on February 28, 1949, in Minneapolis, Pam's life spanned Minnesota, Washington, Canada, and Europe. Her life was marked by her faith, many friendships, and a love of music and singing. Pam is preceded in death by her parents, William and Bernadette Brice, and son, Richard Callahan. She is survived by her husband, Donald Foster; daughter Christina (Nick) Mullozzi; brother, William (Brunella) Brice; and sister, Teresa (Alex) Fane; and numerous grand and great grandchildren. Priscilla "Pris" Stauffer, 76 of Rochester, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Mankato, MN.Priscilla was born on September 26, 1947, in Rochester to Dr. Maurice and Athelia (Woodbury) Stauffer. She attended Rochester Public Schools - Folwell Elementary, Rochester Junior High, and John Marshall High School. She lived in Rochester until 2015, when she moved to Mankato. Priscilla was a social woman who was connected in the community, she loved animals, ice skating, travelling, and spending time with people who were important to her. Jan is survived by five sons Douglas (Peg), Paul (Deb), Steven (Bonnie), Peter (Tammy), and David (Chris); twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; sister Joan Hemmah; sister-in-law Jerrie Samuelson; many nieces and nephews; and special family friend Vicki Davis. Robert (Bob) Roy Richter of Mankato, MN, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024. Born on October 23, 1954, to Roy and Jerre (Sykora) Richter of LeCenter, MN. He lived a life full of adventure and unwavering dedication to his family.While attending St. John's University, Bob met the love of his life, Teresa (Terri) Ginder. They were married on September 30, 1978. In 1980 they made Mankato their home where they raised their three children who were his pride and joy.Where others saw obstacles, Bob saw opportunities and respected those who challenged him most. Sister Kate, who made him repeat the third grade, would become a trusted friend; and a business competitor would eventually become like family. A successful entrepreneur before turning 30, he achieved his goal of becoming his own boss by acquiring and expanding Willard Insurance Agency to include Williams Insurance Agency. He owned the Willard and Williams Insurance Agency in Mankato until 2017. His commitment to Mankato extended beyond his business: he was elected to the City Council, serving 5 years, was involved in Leadership Mankato, Noon Exchange, League of Minnesota Cities and the local AFS Chapter, with his family hosting many foreign exchange students over the years.A passionate traveler, Bob never turned down an opportunity to explore new places. He enjoyed everything from local historic sites to destinations far across the globe. His zest for life and discovery was contagious. His greatest loves were sailing and motorcycling. Over the years, he enjoyed scuba diving, fishing trips, snowmobiling, jet skiing, hunting, and many ATV rides with friends and family.Bob had a genuine interest in the individuals that crossed his path throughout his journeys. He leaves behind a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Wally Meyer was the kind of guy you'd happen to meet one day and end up being friends with for years. He was the sort of person who'd ask you how you were doing and was truly interested in your answer. He'd talk through your bad day with you just as genuinely as your good day. No matter what, you'd end up laughing about something, discovering a thing you had in common, and probably getting a piece of wisdom he's pass on from his mother, Erna. He was the sort of person you'd buy a beer for because you just wanted the conversation to keep flowing. You'd tell him that he was welcomed to crash at your place if he ever came through town, and when he called one day to take you up on it, you'd pick up a 12 pack and throw something on the grill because Wally's coming over. Wally understood that life was meant to be lived and that the best part of any good time was the friends and family you shared it with. He built adventures around pool, travel, music, and food. And although he'd pack up his car alone, his destinations were more about the friends and family he would meet up with along the way than the cities and gatherings he set out for in the first place. But Wally was a home body too. He loved to garden, can, and cook. He hung out at his place, playing pool and listening to music with friends. He pulled his family together for annual summer parties to make sure too much time and distance didn't pass between them. He made sure the next generation created memories together. The food, conversation, squirt gun fights, and swimming pool mudslides will not be forgotten. He was deeply loved by those who were lucky enough to know him. He graduated from Gibbon high school 1972 and went on to earn a degree in Fluid Power. John "Bud" Samuel Getta, age 91 of lower North Mankato passed away Sunday June 30, 2024 after suffering a stroke a year ago.Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday. Bud was born March 11, 1933 to John and Anna (Keinz) Getta in Mankato. After High School Bud served his country in the United States Navy and spent some of his tour on the USS Missouri Battleship. He was married to Lynn Krause on July 28, 1956 until her death on March 12, 1999. Bud married Mary Lou Sinclair on February 15, 2004.Bud was plant manager at Kayot Marine, owned Northside Welding. He was a volunteer fireman in North Mankato and was on the North Mankato Planning Commission. He also owned real estate as part of Woodcutters Limited and owned the Dairy Queen West for five years. In his younger years he represented Mankato and North Mankato in traveling city baseball and hockey leagues. Bud was also an avid golfer. Paul Douglas Lamoureux, age 80, died peacefully Saturday June 15, 2024 at New Perspective Senior Living in Mankato, MN.A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. Paul was born in Burlington, Vermont to Doris and Lucien Lamoureux. Paul was the first born of seven children and grew up in Berlin, NH. He enjoyed summers with his family at Akers Pond in Errol, NH and it was there that he met his sweetheart, Cheryl Ordway. They married on Feb 6, 1965. Paul served his country during the Vietnam war. He enrolled in theU.S. Army and was stationed in Fulda, Germany. When he returned to the United States, he continued his education with degrees from the University of New Hampshire and the University of Maine.Paul worked as a teacher and principal in Gorham, NH for many years. He also worked as an administrator in various capacities until he was called to the ministry. He attended and graduated from Luther Northwestern Seminary in St. Paul, MN. He went on to serve various Lutheran ELCA churches in New York and New Hampshire until his retirement.Paul was a kind man who not only put his family first but cared about everyone he met. He was an example of how to treat others and serve the Lord and his community. He was a great husband, father, brother and grandfather. As a man of faith, he will reunite with his loved ones and friends who have gone before him. Kaster, Gregory LawrenceOf Minneapolis passed away unexpectedly June 22 at the age of 70 surrounded by his partner, spouse, and best friend of 38 years Kate Wittenstein and loved and loving friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Wilma Jean Kaster of Park Forest, Illinois. He is survived by Lawrence and Elizabeth Kaster of Los Angeles, Jessica and David Barranco of Paradise Valley, Arizona, Andrew and Vicki Wittenstein of Brooklyn, New York, Cousin Alice Arnold of Chicago, Illinois, and many loved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews. Greg attended school in Park Forest, Illinois, and received his BA (1975) and MA (1978) from Northern Illinois University, and his PhD (1990) from Boston University before joining the Gustavus Adolphus College History Department in 1986. His PhD dissertation examined the language that he called the "labor jeremiad" of organized workingmen in nineteenth-century America. His research and teaching interests included labor history, the history of masculinity in America, slavery and abolitionism, the Civil War, film, visual culture, biography, dissent, and memory and history. His publications include a chapter comparing the films Django Unchained and Lincoln in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained (Bloomsbury, 2014), an essay on the American labor movement, 1790-1860, in Encyclopedia of American Social Movements (M.E. Sharpe, 2004), and "Labor's True Man: Organized Workingmen and the Language of Manliness in the USA, 1827-1877" in Gender and History (April 2001). The latter grew out of a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Seminar for College and University Teachers directed by distinguished labor historian Melvyn Dubofsky. In the classroom, there is nothing Greg liked more than informed and energetic discussion of the course materials or what he called "working out" with the sources. An outstanding, compassionate, and gifted teacher, his work in the classroom was recognized when he was named the 2018 winner of the Edgar M. Carlson Award, the College's highest teaching honor. He particularly enjoyed teaching courses on the U.S. Civil War, the 1960s, and recent U.S. history. He also served as the inaugural holder of the James and Patricia McPherson Endowed Professor of American History position from 2019-2023.Above all, Greg will be remembered by the Gustavus community as a passionate advocate for the power of the liberal arts, especially the humanities, and for being a trusted mentor to faculty and students alike. He was instrumental in bringing many notable speakers to campus, who helped the Gustavus community appreciate the value of the liberal arts in understanding and navigating the present. He was the creator and host of Learning for Life @ Gustavus, an in-depth podcast celebrating Gustavus, its people, and the liberal arts. The podcast recently aired its 150th episode. Those interviewed include Jillian Hisco*ck '05 (owner of A Bar of Their Own, the only bar in Minnesota devoted entirely to women's athletics); English Department colleague, Dr. Martha Ndakalako (whose areas of study include Namibian women's digital literatures and the #ShutItAllDown feminist protest movement); Representative Samantha (Sam) Vang '16 (one of the first two Hmong American women to win a Minnesota House seat); and Dr. Bernard Powers '72 (Professor Emeritus of History at the College of Charleston and founder/director of the Center for the Study of Slavery in Charleston). Greg was a leader on campus in many ways, most visibly in chairing the Faculty Senate and Faculty Personnel Committee. He also worked closely with the Board of Trustees, holding several Board committee positions over the years.A proud Chicagoland native and New Yorker by marriage, Greg was a city person who delighted in the political-cultural energy and diversity of vibrant cities, including Minneapolis and St. Paul. Among his favorite pastimes were dining out with family and friends and shopping at different food purveyors in the Twin Cities. His favorites included Eli's black and blue burger, the hollandaise sauce at Our Kitchen, octopus at Gardens of Salonica, sandwiches and meat at Clancy's, and feta and olives from Bill's Imported Foods. He also loved Greek Town restaurants in Chicago (serving horta and saganaki), Union Oyster House in Boston, Zabar's in New York, and going from the Logan airport directly to lunch at the Daily Catch on trips to Boston's North End. His love of good food was matched by his love of conversations about food with servers, chefs, fellow diners, family, and friends. Every Wednesday, he drove to Sun Street Bakery in Minneapolis to get doughnuts for the breakfast group at Grant Park. Greg also enjoyed walking city streets and parks; traveling; going to the movies, jazz clubs, and the theater; following politics; and working on his courses and projects amid the life-affirming sounds and smells of a great coffeehouse. He loved celebrating and supporting colleagues, students, alumni, and friends through food, notes of encouragement, and phone calls and catalyzing connections between them. Greg loved children and was so proud to be adopted uncle or grandpa to many. He took children and their ideas and feelings seriously and treated them with much dignity. He not only had an inherent magnetic capacity for human connection on a personal level, but also a compassion for humanity in a universal sense. Greg and Kate, also a member of the History Department at Gustavus Adolphus College, were the happy companions of a black lab named Sam, who was predeceased by his and their feline companion, Cooper (named by Kate in honor of the brilliant African American scholar, feminist, and writer, Anna Julia Cooper).In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Greg's name to the Shelf of Hope (at Agate Housing and Services), the National Endowment for the Humanities, or a cause of your choice.
