NicoI'm thirteen and this is my absolute favorite book. if you are a bit more mature and chill with a little bit of sex talk then you're good.

JdemartignyI do not think this book is appropriate for a 13 year old. As a high school librarian I feel the reviews and promotion for this book are very deceiving. For starters the main character, Eric Bittle looks like he's 13 and acts like it too, yet he is surrounded by adult looking males who say things like "Emoticons always equal p****" and "he's probably up in his room getting s***** off by another Zimmermann puck bunny". The setting is a college and the spring dance is called the Spring Screw. I read a lot of YA for my job and I would not recommend this for a 13 year old.

Topher MarshNo. There is casual oral sex performed by groupies on hockey players. Plus, the book is ridiculous. Not well-researched AT ALL. I would not recommend this book for a 13-year-old.

AlexThere's nothing graphic, only a bit of talk about sex from time to time but honestly, it's not that bad. Nothing a thirteen (or I guess fourteen because this question is old now) year old should be bothered by or sheltered from.

AllieObviously you're 14 by now as you posted this a year ago, but if you haven't yet read this, I would recommend it. The book is rated for ages 14 and up. Though it does have some "mature subjects," talk about sex and cussing, if you can handle that, it's a good book. Also, it's pretty quick and fun to read and might even peak your interest in books!

Haley ChalatI am twelve and this book was hardly "inappropriate" at all. Mention of sex, heavy cursing, good role models. It's a very LGBTQIAP+ positive college the boys go to and it is accurate to how how accepting some people are in todays society. They do curse quite a bit (hardly in negative ways) and it's overall just a very sweet story. So, if you aren't comfortable with your child consuming this material, then by all means, don't buy it for him, but all kids learn about sex at some point, and children with understanding parents tend to mature slower and want to have their parent(s) involved in their lives more frequently.

Parent ANO. As a parent I don't appreciate this book being marketed and classified as YA, with its cute unassuming cover that would draw in children as young as 8-10. So much wrong with this book I don't even know where to start.
Well I guess first off, from what I understand this book was only published because it had an online cult following and was crowdfunded, and now it's in the mainstream like a legitimate book. How it entered the library system I don't know. Just the language alone would give it an R rating if it were a movie, but apparently it's ok in book form??
Then there's talk about getting drunk, losing virginity, getting sucked, girls anatomy using the p***y word, I have not even read the book this is just from a flip through.
A picture of a girl vomiting upwards, but the vomit is shaped like man's anatomy so it looks like she's performing oral sex. Sexual innuendo, the older boy smashing the main character into the wall (like getting checked), the kid looks in pain and yells "stop, stop! ...how long are we going to keep doing this" and he replies "until you stop being scared".
I don't see how this book received a young adult rating between the language and sexual content. I feel like there has almost been a mistake here and it is being overlooked because of the cute unassuming cover and numerous positive reviews by this author's fans.
