Is it 1990 ok for kids? ›

Rated PG-13 For Violence, Bloody Images And Some Drug Use.

Due to the graphic and intense nature of the movie, it may not be suitable for children under 12 or 13. While some children may be able to handle the content of the movie, it is ultimately up to the parents or guardians to decide whether their child can handle the content.

I would say 13+ because it is really upsetting at some points (no spoilers) and it includes skulls and lots of swearing.

This film isn't for anyone under 13. Overall, “It” is definitely a good movie, it does have some scary scenes and it has the messages of friendship and sticking .

Andy Muschietti's IT Chapter Two is a horror movie based on a Stephen King novel, but it's not as scary as the first movie, though it does have its fair share of horrifying moments. Directed by Muschietti, IT Chapter Two is based on King's 1986 novel IT, just like 2017's IT Chapter One movie.

There's a lot of drug talk, scenes that show college-age kids smoking weed, and some beer drinking. There is also a lot of sexually objectifying women, sexual innuendos and jokes, and mentions of oral sex. There is some brief nudity (bare breasts).

And it was scary in 1990. And it's extra-scary in 2017. This is a masterful sequence, and it starts the movie in gruesome fashion, which is just how we like “It.” The sight of Pennywise in the darkened sewer is unsettling, but paralysing fear sets in once he attacks Georgie.

Pennywise is a bit scarier in the remake, I enjoyed Tim Curry in the role but Bill Skarsgard's performance is more sinister and less comical which I thought was ultimately more effective for the material, that with the terrifying animation and Muschietti's direction made the character a lot more menacing.

This is a good, at times brilliant, always solid and well-done example of the horror/suspense genre. But be forewarned, the superb setup is better than the slightly disappointing payoff. Content collapsed.

Violence: 4/5-As its a TV movie the violence is very mild and mostly off screen. The blood is very little and not overused. The makeup is brilliant and Tim Curry provides a truly terrifying performance as Pennywise that the remake cannot provide.

A sexual encounter between young teens, including the young-looking 13-year-old main character, is shown right up until the point that nudity would occur and is described in some detail later. Teen characters drink a lot, drive drunk, and smoke both tobacco and pot.

In Cohen's 1990 version, Tim Curry as Pennywise was terrifying, but like many classic horror films it felt campy and cheesy. No gore or guts were ever shown; any pivotable scary moments with Pennywise were paired with loud music, slow motion and abrupt fade ins and outs.
